The White Stripes pump up summer tour schedule

The White Stripes --minimalist rockers Jack and Meg White--have tacked more dates on to their summer U.S. tour in support of their recently released album, "Elephant."

The duo, which is spending the latter half of May touring Europe, returns to the road in the states with a June 13 performance at California radio station Live 105's BFD 2003 festival. They share space on the main-stage roster with Foo Fighters, A.F.I., Deftones and Evanescence.

So far, dates for the outing run through early July; the itinerary also includes a July 23 performance in New York City's Central Park.

The White Stripes released "Elephant" on April 1. The album features the single "Seven Nation Army," which is riding in the Top 5 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Shortly after "Elephant" hit stores, the White Stripes set out on a two-week club tour that included an April 20 concert at Boston's Orpheum Theatre. The group's website features an audio stream of that performance."

"Elephant" is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2001 set "White Blood Cells," which features the hits "Fell in Love With a Girl" and "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground."

Originally released on indie label Sympathy for the Record Industry, "White Blood Cells" was re-released last year on BMG imprint V2.
