Blue Man Group to tackle the summer amphitheater circuit
Popular off-Broadway outfit Blue Man Group , which is currently wrapping up the spring leg of its inaugural tour, returns to the road this summer for an outing that will primarily visit amphitheaters.
The spring and summer dates will feature opening sets by Tracy Bonham and Venus Hum, both of whom will join Blue Man Group onstage for their performance.
"The Complex," Blue Man Group's first rock album, hit stores in April. The trio--Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink--recorded the set at their New York facility, and used a number of instruments of their own invention. The album features guest appearances from Dave Matthews, Bonham, Josh Haden, Esthero, Dan the Automator and others.
While recording "The Complex," Blue Man Group simultaneously created a "superior concert event that will correspond to the album," according to a press release.
"Our concept from the beginning was to make a record that would fuel a groundbreaking rock concert experience," Wink said in a statement.
The group teamed with production designer Marc Brickman--who has previously worked with Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Genesis and Nine Inch Nails--to create their touring stage set.
In other news, the Blue Man Group track "The Current," with vocals by Gavin Rossdale, will appear on the soundtrack to "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." The group recently shot a music video for the track, which also appears on "The Complex."
