The New Pornographers take 'Electric Version' to the streets

The New Pornographers--a collective that features some of Vancouver's top indie voices--will spend much of June and July on the club circuit to back their new album, "Electric Version."

Fellow indie-rockers the Organ, who are currently recording their debut album, appear on all dates except for July 9 in Quebec City. Additional opening acts are noted in the itinerary below.

The New Pornographers feature Zumpano frontman Carl Newman (who spearheaded the group), alt-country singer-songwriter Neko Case and Dan Bejar (a.k.a. Merge recording artist Destroyer), all of whom take some lead-vocal duties. Rounding out the lineup are drummer Kurt Dahle (drums), John Collins (bass), Todd Fancey (guitar and keyboards) and Blaine Thurier (keyboards).

"Electric Version"--released in early May by Mint Records in Canada and by Matador elsewhere--is the follow up to the New Pornographer's 2000 breakthrough "Mass Romantic," which garnered a slew of favorable reviews.

According to Matador, many of the tracks that turn up on "Electric Version" are songs that the group has been playing live for years.

On June 17, the New Pornographers are scheduled to perform on CBS-TV's "Late Show with David Letterman."
