Radiohead nabs Stephen Malkmus to open North American dates
Malkmus, in a recent posting to his site, writes that he and his band the Jicks will be opening for Radiohead from Aug. 12 through Sept. 5.
"Those boys know how to cook on stage so it should be a blast, and they are super popular," he writes. "I haven't done any big gigs like that in the U.S. since Lollapalooza. Hope I've learned something...."
Radiohead's tour will include two North American legs, the first of which will feature Malkmus in the opening slot. According to Malkmus' post, the first leg's stops will include Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C., the Chicago area, Denver and parts of Canada.
The second leg is expected to run from late September through mid October.
Radiohead releases a new album titled "Hail to the Thief" on June 10. The disc features 14 songs, including a track titled "There There" that the group has selected for the first single. The album is streaming this week in its entirety at MTV.com.
Radiohead split the recording sessions for "Hail to the Thief" between its homeland--Oxfordshire, England--and Los Angeles. The group co-produced the set with longtime collaborator Nigel Godrich, and Godrich handled the mixing process.
Malkmus is touring behind "Pig Lib," his second album with his new band the Jicks.
