Itinerary locked in for B.B. King Music Festival
Organizers have released the full itinerary for the 12th annual B.B. King Music Festival, which has dropped the word "blues" from its moniker and taken a different musical tack.
This year's edition of the tour will be led by its namesake--legendary bluesman B.B. King--and by fellow guitarist Jeff Beck . New Orleans-based progressive-funk group Galactic and Florida soul-blues band Mofro, two groups that are gaining fans among jam-band aficionados, round out the bill.
"With the exploding grassroots rock scene as their fan base, Galactic and Mofro embody the essence of this new, music-loving generation," said a press release announcing the tour. "Their inclusion in this year's lineup signals a new direction for the festival, portraying B.B. and Jeff's desire to embrace these young bands and their dedicated fans."
The outing is scheduled to open in Las Vegas on June 25, and runs through early September.
According to organizers, King will showcase selections from his new album, "Reflections," which is set for release on June 10. The album includes three songs previously recorded by Louis Armstrong, as well as songs that have been recorded by Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson and others.
Though he's less than three years away from his 80th birthday, King continues to play well over 100 concerts per year. During his 60-year recording career, King--who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987--has released more than 50 albums.
