String Cheese Incident lays out fall plans
Independent jam-band the String Cheese Incident is set to release a new studio album in September, and will back the set with additional tour dates.
The specific release date for the new album--which was recorded at the Record Plant in Sausalito, Calif., with producer Youth (Verve, Crowded House)--hasn't been announced, but the fall SCI tour will visit a mix of amphitheaters, festivals and theaters in September and October.
Prior to the fall tour, SCI will finish up its summer schedule, which is dominated by festivals. The tour opens on June 19, then moves on to Europe before returning to North America. In July and August, the band will play two nights each in Santa Fe, San Francisco and Mount Shasta, Calif.
A three-day concert/camp-over event starring SCI--dubbed "Horning's Hideout 2003: A Living Dream Experience"--takes place Aug. 1-3 in North Plains, Ore. More details about the event are available at the band's website,
SCI opens for Bob Dylan in the Boise, Idaho, area on July 22.
Last spring, the String Cheese Incident launched an ongoing, live-CD series dubbed "On the Road," which allows fans to purchase a recording of almost every show that the band plays. The three-CD sets are "a matrix mix of soundboard and audience microphones, as mixed by SCI front-of-house engineer Jon O'Leary," according to the band's SCI On the Road website.
The band's last studio album, the Steve Berlin-produced "Outside Inside," hit stores in 2001.
String Cheese Incident handles its own booking, management and publicity. It also has its own record label, publishing company and travel agency. In addition, it sells tickets to its events via its SCI Ticketing service.
