Summer plans emerge for Les Claypool's Frog Brigade
Though his main band, Primus , has been on hold for three years, bassist-vocalist Les Claypool will keep busy on the road this summer with side-project Les Claypool's Frog Brigade.
The group has scheduled a mix of U.S. club and festival dates for July and August, starting with a July 5-6 run at the High Sierra Music Festival in Northern California. That event will also feature Steve Winwood, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Keller Williams and others.
Claypool has dedicated most of his Primus-hiatus time to the Frog Brigade, which continues to support its first studio release, last September's "Purple Onion."
Prior to issuing the studio set, the group's only releases were a pair of live albums--"Live Frogs Set 1" and "Live Frogs Set 2-- that surfaced in 2001 on Claypool's own Prawn Song label.
Claypool, King Crimson's Adrien Belew and Tool's Danny Carey spent some time recording at Claypool's home studio earlier this year, working on tracks for an upcoming Belew solo project, according to Claypool's website. The three are also working on a separate trio project.
Meanwhile, the site reports that Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains--which features Claypool on bass, Buckethead on guitar and Bernie Worrell on keyboards--were recently in Claypool's studio working on their debut release.
