Columbus lands 16th edition of Farm Aid benefit show

A familiar list of longtime supporters--Willie Nelson , Neil Young , John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews --will headline this year's edition of Farm Aid, which for the first time will take place in Columbus, Ohio.

The concert, which will feature many other artists to be announced, is set for Sept. 7 at Germain Amphitheater. Tickets will go on sale on June 28, according to organizers.

Last year's Farm Aid concert took place at the Post-Gazette Pavilion in the Pittsburgh area, and previous shows were Noblesville, IN, and Bristow, VA, among other major farming regions.

"Farm Aid is committed to the hard working farm families who give us so much," said Nelson, Farm Aid's longtime president, in a press release. "Ohio is a strong farming state where much of the farmland is still owned and operated by family farmers, the backbone of Ohio's economy."

Nelson, Mellencamp and Young staged the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Matthews, who has appeared on several Farm Aid bills, joined Farm Aid's board of directors two years ago.

The Farm Aid organization says it has granted over $15 million to more than 100 farm organizations, churches and service agencies in 44 states.
