Olivia Newton-John comes up from Down Under for U.S. tour
Australian singer Olivia Newton-John returns to the states this summer for a round of tour dates on the casino and theater circuits.
John's first batch of dates kicks off in early August and currently runs through the end of the month. Another leg starts up in mid October and stretches into mid November. Both legs include a multi-night stand at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Best known for her string of '70s- and '80s-era hits--such as "I Honestly Love You," "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "Physical"--as well as her role in the movie version (and soundtrack) of the musical "Grease," John's commercial popularity in the U.S. has waned over the years; the singer hasn't released a new set of original material in the U.S. since 1998's "Back with a Heart."
In her homeland, however, John's recording career continues to flourish. Last year, she released in Australia a new set titled "2," which is a collection of duets featuring artists such as Keith Urban, Richard Marx and Michael McDonald. Also included is an acoustic version of 1981's "Physical."
Though she hasn't graced U.S. shelves with any original material in some time, various compilations and live sets have surfaced stateside in recent years. Universal offered up "Magic: The Best of Olivia Newton-John" and "The Christmas Collection" in 2001, followed by last year's "The Millennium Collection: The Best of Olivia Newton-John," issued as part of the label's "20th Century Masters" series. Also in 2002, John released a live set titled "One Woman's Live Journey."
