Peter Frampton extends tour behind forthcoming album
Seventies-era rock legend Peter Frampton has added more dates to a lengthy outing that supports his first new studio album in nine years.
The run, which kicks off on Friday (7/4), now stretches well into October. Tickets for a number of shows are on sale to the general public, while members of Frampton's fan club will get a shot at ticket pre-sales for some dates, according to his website.
Titled "Now," Frampton's new album hits shelves on Aug. 26. The first single, "Verge of a Thing," ships to rock radio on Aug. 1, according to Frampton's publicist. The set is Frampton's first collection of original material since his self-titled 1994 release.
Frampton recorded and mixed the new album's 11 tracks at his home studio in Cincinnati. The singer-guitarist said he approached the creation process on this album differently than on his previous works.
"In the past it was always, 'Okay, I've got eleven songs. Let's cut them all and use ten,'" he said in a statement. "That wasn't the case with 'Now'; I was much more careful about what I decided to use. It took two albums worth of songs to get to where we are."
"Now" includes nine new originals, as well as a cover of the late George Harrison's "My Guitar Gently Weeps," and the track "Hour of Need," which Frampton first wrote and recorded for the 2001 Cameron Crowe film "Almost Famous." Backing Frampton on the set is his touring band, which features Bob Mayo (keyboards) and John Regan (bass)--both of whom have been with Frampton since the '70s--and Chad Cromwell, a session drummer hailing from Nashville who signed on with Frampton in 1997.
Despite being the outfit's namesake, Frampton said that each member of his group is equally important.
"Yes, I'm a solo artist, but I don't go anywhere without my band," he said. "If one of them is unavailable, we don't play; it's that simple. It's all of us, or none of us."
Frampton is best known for his 1976 live set, "Frampton Comes Alive!" The album--which featured the singles "Baby I Love Your Way," "Show Me the Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do"--rocketed to the top of the album chart, and is the top-selling live rock album ever.
