Great White scraps benefit tour due to 'insurance issues'

Great White , citing an inability to secure insurance, has canceled a multi-act tour that was to have benefited the families of victims of a deadly Rhode Island nightclub fire earlier this year.

The group had planned to mount a 55-city outing with fellow '80s-era rockers L.A. Guns and XYZ to raise money for the Station Family Fund, a nonprofit organization set up in the wake of a February fire at the Station nightclub. The blaze, ignited by Great White's pyrotechnics display, killed 100 people and injured nearly 200 more.

Information posted at L.A. Guns' website explained that there were "some insurance issues for Great White whereas the venues were requiring them to purchase additional insurance and it just wasn't realistic."

According to published reports, insurers wouldn't grant Great White a blanket policy that would have covered it and its two opening acts. Thus, Great White now plans to mount its own single-act tour, during which the band will play a total of 41 concerts set at clubs and large festivals.

At press time, the group had not yet released a complete itinerary.
