Briefly: Pearl Jam, Ashanti, The Osbournes, Barry White, Joe Jackson
Pearl Jam will play an extra one-hour set before support act Sleater-Kinney takes the stage at the Boston-area's Tweeter Center on Friday (7/11).
According to Pearl Jam's website, the extra set was scheduled "in order to accomplish their goal of performing their entire current repertoire over the course of the three Boston shows while not repeating a single song."
Doors at the venue will open at 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday, and Pearl Jam takes the stage for the first time at 6:30. Sleater-Kinney's set begins at 7:30, and Pearl Jam returns for their main set at 8:45.
"Chapter II," R&B chanteuse Ashanti 's sophomore effort, sold more than 325,000 copies during its first week in stores, and will top the forthcoming Billboard 200 album chart, according to industry sources.
Ashanti's showing pushes Beyonce's "Dangerously in Love" to No. 2, with sales of 183,000 copies. Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father" stays put at No. 3.
The Osbournes--the MTV series that follows the lives of Ozzy Osbourne and his family--will be back next year for its third season, MTV announced.
According to the network, production of 20 more episodes will begin this fall.
Said matriarch Sharon Osbourne in a statement: "How lucky am I to have MTV with us for another year filming home movies of my family--and pay us for it?"
The family of the late Barry White , who died on July 4 due to kidney failure brought on by years of high blood pressure, plans to hold a public memorial for the R&B singer in early August. The memorial--the specific date for which hasn't been announced--will be held in conjunction with the dedication of a Los Angeles recreation center in his name.
A private memorial for White's family and friends took place on Tuesday (7/8) in Los Angeles.
An expanded, deluxe edition of Joe Jackson 's 1982 album "Night and Day," which spawned the hits "Steppin' Out" and "Breaking Us In Two," will hit stores on July 29.
The album was digitally remastered from its original analog master tapes. A second CD in the package features five selections from Jackson's 1983 "Mike's Murder" soundtrack album, and five performances from the final two nights of the 1983 "Night And Day" tour in Sydney, Australia. The live cuts first appeared on 1998's "Joe Jackson Live 1980/86."
