50 Cent keeps Roc the Mic tour alive without Jay-Z
Jay-Z leaves the Rock the Mic tour following its originally scheduled Aug. 5 closing date, but 50 Cent will keep rocking the mic through at least the end of August.
Thirteen new dates that begin on Aug. 7 extend the Rock the Mic outing through Aug. 21. During that stretch, the roster will feature 50 Cent as the sole headliner, plus Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Sean Paul and Bone Crusher.
This weekend, 50 Cent takes the stage at Ford Field in Detroit, where he'll be one of several artists opening Eminem's Saturday (7/12) and Sunday (7/13) headlining performances. Missy Elliot, Obie Trice and D12 are also scheduled to perform.
50 Cent's latest itinerary ends with an August 30th performance at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater as part of the Coors Light Mountain Jam. That event also features Korn, The Doors 21st Century, Evanescence, P.O.D., The Roots, DMC, American Hi-Fi, Gov't Mule and Groove Armada, among others.
The Rock the Mic tour kicked off in late June. Organizers plan to use the outing as the "blueprint for the first true annual hip-hop festival," according to a press release.
50 Cent has spent much of 2003 on the road in support of his quadruple-platinum debut, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," which surfaced in February and spawned the hit "In Da Club."
In April, 50 Cent released "The New Breed," a DVD that features live performances and behind-the-scenes footage, as well as a bonus CD that houses previously unreleased tracks. Samples of the DVD's footage are posted at 50 Cent's website.
