Interpol lines up North American dates for September, October
New York City art-punk quartet Interpol , which caught the ears of many critics with its 2002 debut album, "Turn on the Bright Lights," is set to tour clubs in major North American markets in September and October.
Interpol formed in 1998, but its current lineup has been in place since 2000. The group scored a big break when its sound, which owes much to post-punkers Joy Division, caught the ear of BBC Radio host John Peel, who featured the group on his program in 2001. As a result of that early exposure, the group remains a popular draw throughout much of Europe.
"Turn on the Bright Lights" was recorded in November of 2001, after Matador Records signed the group on the strength of its early EPs. The album was recorded and mixed by Peter Katis (Mercury Rev, Clem Snide) and Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.)
Fans can get a peek at Interpol at work on ABC-TV's Jimmy Kimmel Live on July 23, and on Pepsi Smash--the WB's new live-music program--on July 30.
In August, Interpol is scheduled to play dates in Japan, Australia and Europe; a full international itinerary is available at the band's website.
