Gov't Mule saddles up for 'Rebirth of the Mule Tour'
New Earth Mud, former Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson's new outfit, will open.
The run kicks off in Philadelphia on Oct. 10, and dates so far stretch into mid-November. Beginning July 25, tickets for all but one date will be available through the band's Gov't Mule Ticketing service. Details are posted at the group's website.
Tickets for the group's Halloween performance at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans hit Gov't Mule Ticketing on July 28. Details about the "very special Halloween weekend" will surface soon, according to a band press release.
The Saenger Theater served as the setting for the group's forthcoming CD and DVD, "The Deepest End," which is scheduled for an Oct. 7 release; the group recorded the set during its May 3 performance at the venue, which sold out six weeks in advance. The six-hour performance--a tribute to Gov't Mule bassist Allen Woody, who died in August of 2000--features surviving Gov't Mule guitarist Warren Haynes and drummer Matt Abts teamed with a host of guest bassists, including Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne), Les Claypool (Primus), Mike Gordon (Phish) and others.
The group is expected to hit the road with a new permanent bassist, but hasn't yet announced who that person is.
Before its fall headlining tour gets underway, Gov't. Mule will open three late-July concerts for the Dave Matthews Band, and will also play a trio of late-August dates, including a performance at the Aug. 30 Coors Light Mountain Jam in Colorado. The latter show's multi-genre bill also includes Korn, 50 Cent, P.O.D., The Doors 21st Century, American Hi-Fi, Groove Armada, DMC and others.
Gov't Mule has already nailed down its New Year's Eve plans; the group will hold a three-night stand at New York City's Beacon Theatre Dec. 29-31. Tickets are already on sale.
