David Lee Roth Receives Email Threats

David Lee Roth received 11 threatening email messages while he and his DLR Band were in Lubbock, Texas, to perform last Tuesday (11/9), according to a report his bodyguard filed with Lubbock police. The concert went on as scheduled, and no other dates have been affected.

Police released no specifics about the nature of the threats to the press. His bodyguard first reported the messages to the FBI, which directed him to Lubbock police.

Because Roth received the threats in Lubbock, Lubbock police will share jurisdiction with police in the undisclosed city where Roth's Internet service provider is based, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Roth has been on the road since this summer, playing sets dominated by songs from his days as the frontman for Van Halen . The tour is currently winding down, and Roth and band plan to return to the studio soon, according to Roth's official website.

In other Van Halen-related news, Reuters reports that Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen , 44, will undergo hip replacement surgery later this month. Van Halen's problems were reportedly caused by years of jumping around onstage.

Tour manager Scotty Ross also told Reuters that the band Van Halen won't start its search for a new lead singer to replace the recently departed Gary Cherone until early next year.
