Briefly: Prince, Mercury Music Prize, Paul McCartney, Sylvia Tyson
"Prince Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas," an 80-minute performance DVD that was recorded at the hotel-casino on Dec. 15, 2002, is scheduled to hit stores on Aug. 19.
The concert, headlined by Prince and the NPG (New Power Generation), also featured special guests Nikka Costa, Maceo Parker (on sax) and Sheila E. (on percussion).
Prince's latest album, "N.E.W.S.," was issued via his NPG Music Club in June. It contains only four songs--"North," "East," "West" and "South"--each clocking in at 14 minutes.
The 12 finalists for this year's Mercury Music Prize--an award that "aims to celebrate the best" in British music--are Radiohead 's "Hail to the Thief," Dizzee Rascal's "Boy In Da Corner," The Thrills' "So Much for the City," Soweto Kinch's "Conversations with the Unseen," Floetry's "Floetic," The Darkness' "Permission to Land," Coldplay 's "A Rush of Blood to the Head," Martina Topley-Bird's "Quixotic," Eliza Carthy's "Anglicana," Athlete's "Vehicles and Animals," Terri Walker's "Untitled," and Lemon Jelly's "Lost Horizons."
The winner will be chosen by an independent panel of judges, and will be revealed during a Sept. 9 awards show.
A new Paul McCartney concert DVD and video titled "Paul is Live in Concert on the New World Tour" is scheduled for release sometime in August, according to Liberty International Entertainment.
The DVD will feature more than 20 classic McCartney, Wings and Beatles songs, "timeless concert footage," rare McCartney-family footage, a biography and a photo gallery, a press release said.
Sylvia Tyson , who was half of the folk-country duo Ian & Sylvia before embarking on a solo career, has been inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Country Music Association announced. Also inducted was promoter J. Edward Peterson.
