Hoobastank gears up for late-summer road trip

Rock quartet Hoobastank --which is currently putting the finishing touches on a new album--hits the tour trail next month.

The group has so far penciled in a few early August dates, with the bulk of its itinerary set from late August through late September. The band's plans also include a New York City performance on Wednesday night (7/30) as part of the Rolling Stone Private Concert Series. Details on how to get in to the private event--which will also feature an opening set from Die Trying--are posted at Hoobastank's website.

Hoobastank's late-summer shows precede the release of the group's forthcoming sophomore album, which is due out sometime this fall. The band recently began mixing what it thought was the finished batch of songs, but last week re-entered the studio to lay down a few new tracks, according to a message that drummer Chris Hesse posted at the group's website last Thursday (7/24).

"Just when you thought we were done ... We're BACK in the studio!" he wrote. "Actually, we thought we were done too, already started mixing the record and coming up with artwork ideas ... when a couple more song ideas came up that we liked. So now we're back in the studio throwing down these ideas to tape and eating loads of Chinese food!"

The finished product--for which the group has not announced a specific title or release date--will serve as the follow-up to the its self-titled 2001 major-label debut.
