Dandy Warhols gear up for new album and tour

The Dandy Warhols have planned a busy August for themselves, during which they'll release their fourth full-length album and kick off a headlining run to back the new set.

The outing begins in New York City on Aug. 15 with an acoustic set for The Housing Works Benefit, a non-profit organization that "provides housing, healthcare and advocacy to homeless people living with HIV and AIDS," according to a press release. Subsequent headlining dates stretch into late September.

The Dandy Warhol's new album, "Welcome to the Monkey House," is due in stores on Aug. 19. The set features the single "We Used to Be Friends," which is streaming at the band's website. The album cut "You Were the Last High" is also streaming at the site.

"Welcome to the Monkey House" features guest appearances from from Duran Duran vocalist Simon LeBon, and renowned Chic guitarist/producer Nile Rodgers, as well as studio contributions by such producers as Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T.Rex) and LeBon's Duran Duran bandmate Nick Rhodes. Jeremy Wheatley (Spice Girls, Boyzone, Sophie Ellis Bextor) mixed the 12-track set, with additional help from Yoad Nevo (Daniel Beddingfield, Sugababes, Ash).

In addition to recording their forthcoming album, The Dandy Warhol's recent activities also include shooting an appearance for the Walt Disney Pictures film "Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen"--due out in the spring of 2004--in which they'll be seen performing the "Welcome to the Monkey House" track "The Dandy Warhols Love Almost Everyone." Meanwhile, a new song titled "The Last High" turns up on the "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" soundtrack.

The band precedes the release of its new album with an Aug. 14 performance on NBC's "The Late Show With Conan O'Brien," and follows the headlining tour by linking up with David Bowie, who handpicked the group to open for him during the European leg of his upcoming world tour.
