Emmylou Harris poised to issue new album, mount tour
Veteran singer Emmylou Harris follows a September stint opening for Neil Young and Crazy Horse with a fall headlining run that supports her first new studio album in three years.
After three late-August festival dates in Canada, Harris hits the road with Young from Sept. 3 to Sept. 13, and also performs at the Boston Folk Festival on Sept. 21.
Two days later, Harris releases "Stumble Into Grace," her second set for Nonesuch Records. The 12-track collection is her follow-up to 2000's "Red Dirt Girl," and finds her working again with "Red Dirt Girl" producer Malcolm Burn.
"Stumble Into Grace" features guest appearances from Linda Ronstadt, who performs on the cut "Strong Hand"--a song dedicated to the late June Carter Cash; Kate and Anna McGarrigle, who co-wrote and sang on a track called "Little Bird"; Jane Siberry, who appears on "I Will Dream" and "Lost Unto This World"; Julie Miller, who co-wrote and sang on "Here I Am."; and Luscious Jackson's Jill Cuniff, who co-wrote "time in Babylon."
As she did for "Red Dirt Girl," Harris wrote or co-wrote all of the material on "Stumble Into Grace," something she has rarely done over the course of her 35-year recording career; prior to "Red Dirt Girl," Harris's only set comprising material she wrote or co-wrote is 1985's "Ballad of Sally Rose."
