David Bowie sneaks in nightclub show as world tour beckons

David Bowie has announced a show at The Chance nightclub in Poughkeepsie, NY, as a warm-up date before launching his European tour in October.

The Aug. 19 show was announced on Bowie's official website and tickets were made available exclusively to fan club members on Monday evening (8/4).

The selection of the performance site may owe to the fact that Bowie recorded 2002's "Heathen" in the area. The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that Bowie's longtime bass player Gail Ann Dorsey lives nearby, and Bowie and wife Iman recently purchased land in the vicinity.

Bowie's world tour is scheduled to launch Oct. 7 in Copenhagen and run for about two months before U.S. dates begin. The tour will support "Reality," Bowie's 26th album, which is due Sept. 16.

Macy Gray has landed the opening slot on the U.S. leg of Bowie's tour. Gray's "The Trouble with Being Myself" dropped July 15 and debuted in the No. 44 slot on Billboard's Pop Album chart.
