Kenny Rogers cuts new track for delayed album, mounts tour
Kenny Rogers ' new album "Back to the Well" has been pushed back to late September, and will now feature a new duet that reunites the veteran country singer with Dolly Parton.
The two recently recorded the song, titled "Undercover," at the Sound Kitchen recording studio in Franklin, TN, just south of Nashville. The Parton-penned cut is the pair's first new recording since 1983's "Islands in the Stream." The latter track, which the Bee Gees wrote, became the biggest selling country single ever, according to a press release.
Originally due out this summer, "Back to the Well" is now scheduled to hit U.S. shelves on Sept. 23. The first version of the album, which does not include "Undercover," was released abroad in late May.
Among the album's other tracks is Rogers' most-recent hit, "I'm Missing You," which tells the tale of a soldier sent to a foreign land. Rogers' record label, Dreamcatcher Entertainment, rushed the song to radio months before the album's release because of its relevance during the Iraqi war.
Though it surfaced in the midst of the war in Iraq, songwriters Steve Wariner and Billy Kirsch originally wrote "I'm Missing You" for the 2002 Mel Gibson film "We Were Soldiers," but the cut never made it onto the film's soundtrack.
Rogers' website features streaming samples of 12 "Back to the Well," including a full-length version of "I'm Missing You"; at press time, the duet with Parton was not yet posted.
