Blackout leads to concert postponements, but some shows go on

The power outage that struck a huge swath of the Northeast and Midwest on Thursday (8/14) afternoon forced the postponement of several scheduled concerts throughout the region.

Though power was slowly coming back online in most areas by Friday afternoon, it looked likely that many of Friday's events could be in jeopardy as well. Parts of Michigan could be without electricity all weekend, the Detroit News reported.

A roundup of some of the shows affected on Thursday follows:

  • The Iggy & the Stooges hometown reunion concert at the Detroit-area's DTE Energy Music Theatre was postponed until Aug. 25 at the same venue. Tickets for the original date will be honored, or refunds can be obtained at their point of purchase, according to promoters. The show will mark the first hometown performance by Pop and his Stooges bandmates Ron and Scott Asheton in more than 30 years.

  • Teen idol Aaron Carter was set to perform at Jones Beach Theater on New York's Long Island, but the blackout put a damper on the show; promoters plan to reschedule the concert.

  • Indigo Girls , with the help of portable generators, performed their concert at New York City's Central Park Summerstage as scheduled.

  • Bob Dylan 's scheduled performance at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom was postponed until Friday (8/15). Tickets for Thursday's show will be honored on the new date; refunds will also be available at the point of purchase.

  • Jo Dee Messina , who was scheduled to play at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY, performed an impromptu acoustic show atop a piano in one of the venue's main lobbies, according to her publicist. A fire marshal shut down the show after about 30 minutes.

  • The Journal News reported that Thursday night's scheduled Lou Graham and Foreigner concert at Playland Park in Rye, NY, was called off after the outage shut down the facility.
