Switchfoot logs more miles to back 'The Beautiful Letdown'
Rock group Switchfoot continues to support its latest album with more roadwork, and has extended the outing into the fall.
The San Diego-based group's plans include an Aug. 23 performance in Midland, TX, at the three-day Rock the Desert festival. Other stops include several college-campus shows and amusement-park concerts.
Titled "The Beautiful Letdown," the San Diego-based group's new set hit stores in February. The set sold more than 14,000 copies during its first week out, and debuted at No. 85 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
"The Beautiful Letdown" has sold more than 100,000 copies to date, according to the band's website. It currently sits at No. 173 on the Billboard 200, and is the No. 7 entry on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart.
In addition to its success on the Contemporary Christian scene, Switchfoot has crossed over into mainstream radio with the hits "Gone" and latest single "Meant to Live." The latter cut is among the top-40 entries on industry-trade Radio & Records' Alternative Chart.
Group frontman Jonathan Foreman talked about the roots of "The Beautiful Letdown" in the band's record-company bio sheet.
"'The Beautiful Letdown' is about real life: the good, the bad, and the ugly," he wrote. "It's an honest attempt to reflect on the great and terrible aspects of being human, the tension of existence. A lot of people run away from this tension because the problems in our world are too hard to face. But the tension of being human is where we live and think and breathe. In fact, the very lowest moments in our lives are when we stand toe to toe with the truth about ourselves and our world."
Foreman and his brother, bassist Tim Foreman, formed Switchfoot in the mid-'90s. The group also includes drummer Chad Butler and guitarist-keyboardist Jerome Fontamillas.
