Scott Weiland [ tickets ], the troubled lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots [ tickets ] and Velvet Revolver [ tickets ], was sentenced last week to three years of probation in connection with a May drug arrest on two felony drug possession charges.

As a condition of the probation, Weiland, 35, was ordered to continue to attend counseling sessions and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and to submit to random drug testing, according to the Pasadena District Attorney's office.

Weiland and Jennifer Lynn Sires, 29, were arrested May 18 following a routine traffic stop in Burbank, CA, after police found heroin and cocaine in the car in which the two were traveling. The search was initiated after police allegedly saw drug paraphernalia the car. Weiland could have faced up to a year in jail.

After several drug-related run-ins with the law, Weiland spent about a year in jail and a drug treatment program between 1999 and 2000.

Weiland's arrest came as Velvet Revolver--a group that also features former Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum--was preparing to record its debut album. MTV News, citing "a source close to the group," reported that the band hopes to record the album this fall and release it by February of 2004.
