Toby Keith's 'Shock'N Y'All' itinterary expanded, new album due
Oklahoma native Toby Keith has a new album on the way in November that takes its name from his ambitious 2003 "Shock'N Y'all" tour, an outing that is now scheduled to run into October.
Despite his extensive tour schedule, Keith has found time to work on his 10th album, also dubbed "Shock'N Y'all." The set is scheduled for release on Nov. 4, and its first single, "I Love This Bar," was recently released to country radio.
The "I Love This Bar" companion video features 20 "real-life, bar-hopping characters" who were found during open-casting contest sponsored by three country-music radio stations.
The tour and album draw their names from the U.S. Defense Department's Iraqi-war catch phrase "shock and awe." The "Shock'N Y'all" tour name was announced in June, but Keith has been on the road virtually nonstop since the July 2002 release of his latest album, "Unleashed."
"Unleashed" features Keith's latest No. 1 hit, "Beer for My Horses," a duet he recorded with country legend Willie Nelson.
"It was a dream of mine when I co-wrote the song to have Willie sing on it and for it to go No. 1," Keith said in a statement. "It was too perfect for it not to come true. It's a great thing to have Willie back on the radio!"
"Unleashed" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and has sold more than two million copies. The album got an early boost from its pro-war hit "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)."
The song was also the catalyst for a feud between Keith and fellow country star Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks), who last year criticized the cut. The beef escalated when Keith began displaying at his concerts a fake photo of Maines with Saddam Hussein. Maines shot back at May's Academy of Country Music Awards by wearing a shirt that bore the letters "F.U.T.K."
Though he was nominated for eight ACMs, Keith took home just one: Entertainer of the Year.
Keith was the No. 1 ticket-seller in country music for 2002, and No. 7 overall for the year, according to Pollstar. Last month, the Academy of Country Music crowned him Entertainer of the Year.
