Briefly: Moby, Farm Aid, Metallica, Motorhead, MTV awards
Electronic artist Moby is set to release on Nov. 4 a collection of B-sides from his 2002 album "18" along with a self-directed DVD.
According to a press release, the DVD features behind-the-scenes vignettes, outtakes and live-performance footage. Among its audio features are "a Moby mega-mix of the best remixes from '18' as well as numerous demos, outtakes and alternate mixes."
Vanessa Carlton, Hootie & the Blowfish, Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois, Los Lonely Boys, Aaron Brotherton, Titty Bingo and Billy Bob Thornton are the latest confirmed acts for this year's Farm Aid benefit, which takes place on Sept. 7 at the Germain Amphitheater in Columbus, OH.
They join previously announced acts Willie Nelson , Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, Brooks & Dunn and Trick Pony .
Metallica , a band known for filling stadiums, will play an Aug. 29 concert at New York's 500-capacity Bowery Ballroom. Local radio station K-Rock (WXRK) is presenting the show; the station says fans should listen to find out how to win tickets. Tickets to the show won't be sold.
"Stone Deaf," a five-CD, 99-track box set covering the career of metal gods Motorhead is scheduled for release on Oct. 7.
Four of the discs are organized chronologically, with the first covering 1975-1980 and the fourth covering 1996-2002. The fifth disc features live cuts recorded throughout the group's career.
Beyonce and Metallica have been added to the list of performers for this year's MTV Video Music Awards. They join previously announced acts Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, 50 Cent, Coldplay and Good Charlotte.
The awards will be handed out at an Aug. 28 ceremony that will be broadcast live from New York's Radio City Music Hall.
