Cher keeps saying goodbye with more tour dates

Seems like Cher isn't ready to ride off into the sunset yet; the singer has again extended her long-running farewell tour, which now supports her just-released live CD and DVD.

Cher's outing, dubbed "Living Proof--The Farewell Tour," began in June of last year, and new dates will keep the run rolling until late October. It ends with a pair of January dates in Las Vegas.

The tour's remaining dates follow Tuesday's (8/26) release of "Cher Live: The Farewell Tour," a concert DVD that features 18 songs recorded during her Nov. 8, 2002 concert in Miami. The footage was originally used as part of NBC's "Cher's Living Proof Farewell Tour" television special.

Also out on Tuesday (8/26) is "The Very Best of Cher: The Special Edition," a re-released version of the hits collection that first surfaced in March. The updated set includes a second disc that houses the audio versions of the 18 tracks that appear on the new live DVD. A limited-edition, single-disc version of the live tracks is also available.

Cher's set lists during her farewell tour have spanned her four-decade-long career. The show features a seven-piece band and several dancers, as well as video clips highlighting the greatest moments of her music, film and TV careers.

According to tour promoter Clear Channel, costume changes come with almost every song. The two-tiered set includes a mechanical elephant, acrobats on rings and ropes and colorfully clad dancers.

Cher, 57, first rose to fame with partner and then-spouse Sonny Bono. During her subsequent solo career, she has enjoyed several cycles of prominent commercial success, the most recent of which occurred in 1998. It was during that year that her single "Believe," featured on the album of the same name, hit No. 1.

The song went on to garner Cher the 1999 GRAMMY® award for Best Dance Recording.
