Godsmack precedes acoustic album with more North American shows
Boston-based rockers Godsmack head back out this fall for a string of U.S. and Canadian shows that lead up to the November release of the band's first acoustic album.
The fall run kicks off in mid-September, and dates so far are set through Halloween, when the group performs at the Voodoo Music Experience festival in New Orleans.
On Nov. 18, Godsmack plans to release an as-yet-untitled acoustic album, which the group has been working on in Hawaii with producer David Bottrill. The set will feature stripped down versions of some of the group's hits--including "Voodoo" and latest single "Serenity"--as well as several new cuts.
Frontman Sully Erna said in a statement that the forthcoming album grew out of the band's penchant for performing some acoustic numbers during its live performances.
"We decided to do an acoustic record because we have always messed around with acoustic versions of our music and gotten great reactions to it," he said. "Reworking the songs this way shows a different side of the band."
Godsmack's most-recent plugged-in release, "Faceless," arrived in stores in April, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. In addition to "Serenity," the set also includes the hit "Straight Out of Line.
On Wednesday night (8/27), Godsmack opens for Iggy Pop and the Stooges at New York's Roseland Theater, where both groups are performing as part of the MTV2 LIFEBeat Benefit Concert. The event raises funds for LIFEBeat, a non-profit organization "dedicated to reaching America's youth with the message of HIV/AIDS prevention," according to LIFEBeat's website.
