Tour itinerary gets more 'Complex' for Blue Man Group this fall
The rock-and-roll lifestyle must agree with Blue Man Group , as the trio has added yet another leg to the North American tour in support of its first rock album, "The Complex."
The group, which wraps up the outing's second leg in Atlantic City on Sunday (8/31), will mount another round of shows that start in Canada at the end of September and stretch into late November.
Also included in the group's plans are performances at the U.S. Open's Media Appreciation Day on Sept. 21, at which the group will play a 15-20 minute set; and at the Boston Music Awards on Sept. 4. The band, whose off-Broadway production has been a Boston-area fixture for years now, will team with Boston-based singers Tracy Bonham and Peter Moore for the award-show performance.
"The Complex," Blue Man Group's first rock album, hit stores in April. The trio--Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink--recorded the set at their New York facility, and used a number of instruments of their own invention. The album features guest appearances from Dave Matthews, Bonham, Josh Haden, Esthero, Dan the Automator and others.
While recording "The Complex," Blue Man Group simultaneously created a "superior concert event that will correspond to the album," according to a press release.
"Our concept from the beginning was to make a record that would fuel a groundbreaking rock concert experience," Wink said in a statement.
The group teamed with production designer Marc Brickman--who has previously worked with Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Genesis and Nine Inch Nails--to create their touring stage set.
