Briefly: Johnny Cash, Eagles, Seal, Tom Waits, Janis Ian

Country great Johnny Cash , who had planned to attend Thursday's (8/28) MTV Video Music Awards, instead finds himself undergoing treatment for a stomach condition at Nashville's Baptist Hospital.

According to Nashville newspaper The Tennessean, Cash, 71, was admitted on Monday (8/26), and is expected to be in the hospital for at least two more days.

Cash is nominated for six VMAs.

The Eagles will perform a private concert for the Ottawa Senators' season-ticket holders, package holders, sponsors and suite holders on Oct. 8, the National Hockey League team announced.

The show, arranged by new team-owner Eugene Melnyk, takes place the night before the Senators open their 2003-04 season at the Corel Centre.

Tom Waits , Kronos Quartet, Philip Glass, Foday Musa Suso, Anoushka Shankar, Nawang Khechog, R. Carlos Nakai and the Gyuto Tantric Choir are scheduled to perform at a benefit concert dubbed "Healing the Divide: Concert for Peace and Reconciliation." The Dalai Lama will give a special address at the show, which takes place on Sept. 21 at New York's Avery Fisher Hall.

The concert is billed as a celebration of "the possibility of reconciliation and peace--of healing national, ethnic, and religious divisions wherever they exist." Proceeds benefit Healing the Divide, a nonprofit that aims to improve the lives of people in impoverished communities throughout the Himalayan region.

Canada is expected to legalize gay marriage in the wake of a June court decision that found unconstitutional the definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman, according to Reuters.
