Shania Twain wins big at Canadian Country Music Awards
Pop-country diva Shania Twain topped the pack at this year's Canadian Country Music Awards Ceremony, picking up wins in four categories.
Twain, an Ontario native, racked up trophies for Female Artist and CMT Video of the Year (for "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!"), as well as Top Selling Album and Album of the Year (both for "Up!"). The singer, who has enjoyed massive crossover success in the U.S., gave a nod to her fellow Canadians during her acceptance speech.
"I have to honestly say that I'm just always so humbled coming back here to Canada," she said. "I've got tremendous support here. We all have to believe this as Canadians: We have some of the best talent in the world here."
In addition to collecting her four awards, Twain participated in the ceremony by inducting singer-songwriter Sylvia Tyson into the CCMA Hall of Fame.
Also pulling down multiple honors were Terri Clark and up-and-comer Aaron Lines . Clark--who landed Single of the Year for her song "I Just Wanna Be Mad," and also picked up her fourth Fan's Choice Award--dedicated her Single of the Year Award to singer-songwriter Warren Zevon, who died on Sunday (9/8); Zevon wrote Clark's 1996 hit "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me."
Lines snagged a pair of awards as well, with wins in the Male Artist and Chevy Truck Rising Star categories.
Other winners included Emerson Drive , which scored the Group or Duo of the Year trophy; Sean Hogan, who won in the Roots Artist or Group of the Year category; and Jason McCoy and Denny Carr, who won the SOCAN Song of the Year award for co-writing the Doc Walker hit "Rocket Girl."
