Briefly: Johnny Cash, Hilary Duff, Billy Corgan, Bette Midler, Barenaked Ladies

Johnny Cash , who had been hospitalized at Nashville's Baptist Hospital for a stomach ailment for three weeks, reportedly is now resting at home.

Cash, 71, was released at about noon on Tuesday (9/9), according to Nashville newspaper The Tennessean. A hospital spokesperson told the newspaper that Cash was always in stable condition, and that doctors wanted to make sure that the country great was completely recovered before releasing him.

Next week, Cash reportedly plans to be in California to begin work on a new album.

Teen star Hilary Duff , who came to fame portraying Lizzie McGuire in a Disney TV series and movie, tops the forthcoming Billboard 200 chart with her debut album, "Metamorphosis." The LP sold about 131,000 copies during its second week in stores, according to industry sources.

Last week's No. 1 album, Mary J. Blige's "Love & Life," sold about 108,000 copies, and falls to No. 2.

A Sept. 17 multimedia poetry performance by Billy Corgan --of Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan fame--will kick off the 31st season of readings sponsored by The Poetry Center in Chicago.

Corgan's event, which a press release says will "incorporate numerous artistic elements to create a first-of-its-kind interactive poetry experience," takes place at The Art Institute of Chicago's Rubloff Auditorium.

Columbia Records issues " Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook," a collection of 11 standards, on Sept. 30

Barry Manilow, who produced Midler's first two major albums, helped to arrange most of the tribute album's tracks.

Barenaked Ladies and Train will perform an online concert from the San Francisco Bay's infamous Alcatraz Island on Oct. 16.

The show will be webcast at event-sponsor T-Mobile's website. Tickets will be distributed to the public via an online sweepstakes and radio promotions, and to current T-Mobile subscribers who submit text messages to a special number. More details are available on T-Mobile's site.
