Organizers confirm first batch of Simon & Garfunkel dates
Dates, venues and ticket on-sale information have been announced for about half of the cities on the upcoming Simon & Garfunkel reunion tour, a 30-city jaunt that opens on Oct. 18 in the Detroit area.
General ticket on-sales begin on Monday (9/15) for the tour's stops in Auburn Hills, MI; San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento, CA; Cleveland and Columbus, OH; and Chicago; and St. Paul, MN. On-sales for the tour's Phoenix stops begin on Sept. 20, while tickets are available on Sept. 25 for Denver; Portland, OR; Anaheim, CA; Los Angeles; and Seattle.
For most dates, a limited number of tickets will be available in advance of the general on-sale via an Internet pre-sale. The password required to access the pre-sale will be posted at the tour's official website, according to an announcement posted at the site.
More confirmed tour dates, venues and ticketing details are expected to surface in the coming days.
Earlier this week, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel announced plans for a two-month tour that will visit approximately 30 cities. It will mark the first major tour by the legendary folk-rock duo in 20 years.
During the tour, each night's set will feature a mix of songs played acoustically and backed by a seven-piece band. In a Tuesday (9/9) press conference in New York, Simon said that the bulk of the duo's set list will come from the five Simon & Garfunkel's studio albums. A few songs from the artists' respective solo catalogs may also be included.
The stage for the reunion was set with Simon & Garfunkel's February performance at the 2003 GRAMMY® Awards, where they received the Lifetime Achievement Award. In what was their first performance together in a decade, they opened the telecast by playing "The Sounds of Silence," one of their signature songs.
In conjunction with the tour, Columbia/Legacy will release "The Essential Simon and Garfunkel," a two-disc career retrospective, on Oct. 10.
