Eddie Vedder, C Average To Open For The Who

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder , backed by Olympia, Wash.-based indie-rockers C Average, will be the opening act when the Who reunite for a Nov. 13 charity show at the House of Blues in Chicago.

The show will benefit the Maryville Academy, a Chicago-area facility that cares for disadvantaged youth. Tickets are priced at $300, and will be sold via a lottery Saturday morning (10/2) at the House Of Blues box office in Chicago.

Vedder's love for The Who is well-documented. In July, he performed with Who founder Pete Townshend at a New York nightclub during a promotional gathering for the album ''Pete Townshend Live: A Benefit For Maryville Academy.'' Vedder and Townshend also performed together on an edition of ''Late Night with David Letterman,'' which taped prior to that evening's showcase.

C Average and Vedder have teamed often this year. During one show in Olympia, he and the duo performed a 45-minute set of Who covers. Vedder dressed as Who singer Roger Daltrey for the gig.

Both Pearl Jam and The Who are also scheduled to play at the Bridge School Benefit show Oct. 30-31 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif.

Pearl Jam hasn't performed live since last October. The band recently began recording its seventh studio album in Seattle with producer Tchad Blake, and a February 2000 release date is expected.
