311's fall tour focuses on cities missed during summer run
311 , which just completed a full-scale summer tour, is taking only a short rest before boarding the bus for a fall outing.
The group's next round of shows kicks off in mid-October, and is scheduled to run until mid-December; confirmed dates so far stretch into late November The approximately 40-city jaunt will touch down in markets the group didn't play during its summer run, according to a tour announcement.
The group's website is offering visitors a chance to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
Southern California rock outfit Alien Ant Farm --which is backing its recently released album, "Truant"--hold down the tour's opening slot.
Omaha-based 311's latest album, "Evolver," landed in stores on July 22. It features the hit "Creatures (for a While)," as well as follow-up single "Beyond the Gray Sky," which the group plans to release to radio in late October.
311 recorded "Evolver" at the its Hive Studios in Los Angeles, with producer Ron Saint Germain. Singer-guitarist Nick Hexum, in a message posted the band's website, wrote about how the group selected the new album's title.
"After 14 years together as a band, I think we've really grown and evolved as people, musicians and songwriters," he said. "And we feel like our fans (and music lovers in general) have evolved right along with us."
Hexum added that the new album contains "plenty of classic 311 rockers, but as we take another step forward in the evolution of 311, the record also branches out into some new territory. All of this led us to the title "Evolver" (along with a love for the Beatles album 'Revolver'). We think it suits the album perfectly."
