Fall college dates ahead for self-made rockers O.A.R.
After spending much of the summer aboard the multi-genre Sprite Liquid Mix tour with N.E.R.D. and The Roots, alt-pop foursome O.A.R. has lined up a fall tour that focuses on the college circuit.
"We decided to head out on a college tour this fall for many reasons," O.A.R. frontman Marc Roberge said in a statement. "Most importantly, this is our chance to headline large shows in diverse locations across the country. We began doing shows at colleges a few years ago and haven't really dedicated an entire tour to them in awhile."
Ticket prices will be $10 to $20 on all college dates, and a headlining tour of larger venues will follow, according to a press release. The outing concludes with a two-night stand at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.
O.A.R.--which stands for "Of a Revolution"--built a large grassroots following by touring extensively and by encouraging fans to record and trade its released music. After issuing albums on its own Everfine Records label in 1997 and 1999, the group earlier this year signed with Atlantic's Lava Records imprint.
According to Lava, "In Between Now and Then"--the group's major-label debut--has sold about 85,000 copies during its initial three months in stores, and first single "Hey Girl" is among the most-added songs on Top 40 radio this week.
O.A.R. formed in the Washington, DC, suburbs in 1996, while the group's members were still in high school together. The quartet then honed its sound while attending Ohio State University.
