REO Speedwagon cranks out fall tour, plans New Year's Eve with Styx

REO Speedwagon takes its arsenal of classic-rock hits--as well as some new material--for a spin this fall, and ends the year in Las Vegas with frequent touring partner Styx .

Following a performance at this weekend's Los Angeles County Fair, REO Speedwagon takes a break before launching a new round of dates in mid-October. Founding member Kevin Cronin, in a recent message posted at his band's website, said fans can expect some unfamiliar works to be thrown in with old favorites.

"If all goes as planned, we should have some new songs ready to try out by then," Cronin said. "It is such a luxury to be able to play new material for a live audience before we record them. There is nothing like performing a brand new song live, we learn so much from your reaction."

No word yet on when an album featuring the new material might surface. The group's most-recent release is 2001's "Live: Plus." That same year, Styx and REO Speedwagon co-released the live set "Arch Allies."

The two groups--which this summer mounted a tour with fellow '80s-era sensation Journey--re-team on Dec. 31 for a co-headlining performance at Las Vegas' Aladdin Hotel & Casino.
