Hanson unveils new label, adds third leg to fall tour
Sibling trio Hanson keeps its fall acoustic tour rolling with a new batch of dates that wraps up at New York City's Carnegie Hall, and reveals plans to release its next album on its newly formed indie label,
The new round of shows kicks off on Friday (10/10) in Toronto, and a half-dozen October dates throughout the eastern U.S. follow before the capper at Carnegie Hall on Nov. 5.
Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson launched the tour in August, and have been using the run to preview material from their long-delayed new album, "Underneath," which they had hoped to release this fall. The brothers--who've been without a label since splitting with Island/Def Jam earlier this year over creative differences--announced last week that they will issue the album early next year on their new 3CG label, which takes its name from the group's 1998 release, "Three Car Garage."
Hanson's website describes "Underneath" as a "diverse collection of self-produced and co-produced songs [that] are both lyrically stimulating and filled with classic musical hooks but the more mature sound is not without the trademark Hanson harmonies and classic soulful vocals."
When it does surface, "Underneath" will mark the group's first studio set since 2000's "This Time Around." Musicians who collaborated with the Hanson brothers on the new album include Matthew Sweet, Carole King, Greg Alexander (New Radicals), Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies) and Michelle Branch.
Though the full-length, plugged-in version of "Underneath" won't arrive in stores till 2004, fans can get a taste for the new material via the group's recently released EP, "Underneath Acoustic," which the group is selling at its website, as well as at its shows. The set features acoustic versions of several tracks that will turn up in electric form on the forthcoming full-length.
Hanson broke through on the mainstream music scene with its 1997 bubble-gum hit "MMMBop." At that time, Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson were 16, 13 and 11 years old, respectively.
