Mike Doughty sets fall solo trek, shops new album
Singer-songwriter Mike Doughty has lined up a short East Coast club tour in advance of a lengthier outing in November.
Doughty's set lists are expected to focus on his solo material, but he also plans to play a few songs from the days of Soul Coughing , the band he fronted until it split in 2000, according to his publicist.
Though he'll play most shows solo, Doughty will unveil his new band--dubbed Mike Doughty's Band--on three dates: Nov. 13 in Chicago; Nov. 14 in Madison, WI; and Nov. 15 in Minneapolis. The group features electric pianist Thomas Bartlett, bassist John Munson and drummer Andy Thompson.
According to his publicist, Doughty recorded his first full-band solo album this year with producer Dan Wilson of Semisonic. He is currently shopping the album, and no release date has been set.
Doughty released a solo acoustic album titled "Skittish" in 2000, and the limited-edition live disc "Smofe + Smang: Live In Minneapolis" followed in 2002. He also released a book of poetry, "Slanky," and contributed vocals to albums by BT and They Might Be Giants.
