Puddle of Mudd puts 'Life on Display' with new album, tour

Kansas City quartet Puddle of Mudd paves the way for the release of its sophomore album with a club tour that launches later this month.

The group is scheduled to visit small venues in more than a dozen cities from Oct. 23 through Nov. 10.

"We really want to get back into small clubs because we don't get to play there much anymore," vocalist/guitarist Wes Scantlin said in a statement. "We want to go out and have a blast, and play our new songs for our diehard fans."

"Life on Display," the follow-up to Puddle of Mudd's four-million-plus selling 2001 debut, "Come Clean," is scheduled for release on Nov. 5, according to a press release. "Away from Me," the new album's first single, has been shipped to radio.

Puddle of Mudd recorded the forthcoming LP in Los Angeles, and co-produced the set with John Kurzweg and Michael "Elvis" Baskette.

Building on the success of "Come Clean"--which spawned the rock-radio singles "Blurry," "She Hates Me," "Control" and "Drift And Die"--could be a tall order for the group. In 2002, "Blurry" was the most played track on Modern Rock Radio, according to Broadcast Data Systems, and the track also won the ASCAP award for the most-played song of the year.

Puddle of Mudd--Scantlin, Paul Phillips (guitar), Doug Ardito (bass) and Greg Upchurch (drums)--also won four 2002 Billboard Music Awards: Rock Artist of the Year; Modern Rock Artist of the Year; Rock Track of the Year ('Blurry') and Modern Rock Track of the Year.
