Mannheim Steamroller's annual Christmas tour ready for the road
Mannheim Steamroller , the orchestra headed by New Age composer Chip Davis, embarks on its annual Christmas tour in late November.
The outing will visit more than a dozen cities, concluding with two post-Christmas shows in Davis' hometown of Omaha, NE.
In each city, the tour will feature a seven-piece band augmented by an approximately 20-piece orchestra.
As usual, the arenas that the tour visits will be outfitted in a holiday theme, including a 3,000-square-foot Christmas Village that features a working electrical train and live toy soldiers, elves and gingerbread houses.
The first Mannheim Steamroller holiday album, "Mannheim Steamroller Christmas," was released in 1984, and subsequent holiday sets "A Fresh Aire Christmas," "Christmas in the Aire" and "Christmas Extraordinaire" have since been issued. The four holiday sets have sold a combined total of more than 18 million copies to date, according to tour organizers.
The latest Mannheim Steamroller release is "Halloween," a two-disc set that includes one disc of music--including Toccata in de Mole," "Hall of the Mountain King" and "Funeral March of the Marionette"--and one disc of scary sounds.
