Lynyrd Skynyrd extends tour, readies live DVD
Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd , whose tour plans earlier this year were waylaid by guitarist Gary Rossington's health problems, have extended the in-progress outing.
Dates for the tour, which finally got underway earlier this month, now stretch into mid-December. Tickets for most shows are on sale now.
The road trip backs Skynyrd's May 20 release, "Vicious Cycle," which is the group's first new studio set in four years. Last month, Sanctuary Records issued a limited-edition version of the CD, which features a bonus DVD containing behind-the-scenes clips, interviews, a photo-gallery, and footage from the band's 2003 European tour.
On Nov. 18, the band releases a live DVD titled "Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve: The Vicious Cycle Tour, Celebrating 30 Years of Rock 'N Roll." The film, which the group shot in hi-definition, captures the group's July 11 performance at the AmSouth Amphitheatre in Nashville.
This summer, Lynyrd Skynyrd was forced to cancel most of its planned co-headlining dates with Sammy Hagar after Rossington--who underwent quintuple-bypass surgery in February--was diagnosed in late July with what doctors first diagnosed as "medical fatigue," but later determined was a mild seizure.
The group had planned to resume touring in mid-September, but pushed things back until the beginning of October after doctors advised Rossington to continue resting at home.
