Guster heads out of comfort zone for more tour dates
Boston-based alt-rock trio Guster , which recently completed a round of touring in the Northeast, visits the rest of the U.S. during its ongoing road trip.
"It's been a splendid month touring the Northeast," the group said in a recent message posted on its website. "Nice crowd after nice crowd, our bellies are fat from ingesting your endless love. But sometimes you have to leave your zone of safety. Sometimes you have to get out of the apartment. Sometimes you have to play your instruments in places like Florida just to see what happens."
The group's current itinerary stretches into mid-December, and features dates throughout the U.S., as well as a pair of late-November Canadian stops. Also included is a two-night stand in Washington, DC; the first show, which takes place on Halloween, is a benefit for the George Washington University Breast Cancer Center, while the second show "is a benefit for Guster , who are a touring rock band," according to the group's website.
On Nov. 4, Nettwerk Records issues "Maybe This Christmas, Too," for which Guster recorded a version of "(Mamacita) Donde Esta Santa Claus?"
"It's as spirited a version as you might expect from three Jews who don't speak a word of Spanish," the group said in a website posting. "When you hear it, please email us and let us know what we're singing about."
Early next year, Guster will appear on the popular PBS series "Austin City Limits," for which the band said it worked off of an "odd" setlist full of "deep cuts. No hits!" The program is scheduled to air on Jan. 10.
Guster is on the road behind its fourth album, "Keep It Together," which hit stores in June and debuted at No. 35 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
