U.S. club dates ahead for Los Straitjackets
Los Straitjackets --an instrumental rock quartet that draws its inspiration from the likes of Link Wray , The Ventures and The Shadows--don their masks for a U.S. club tour that runs through the end of the year.
The group is touring behind its seventh album, "Supersonic Guitars in 3-D," which hit stores in September. The set features guest appearances from Don Fleming, Jon Spencer, and X's Billy Zoom and DJ Bonebrake.
Los Straitjackets were at first dubbed The Straitjackets, but--according to the group's lore--they changed their name when, just before their first gig, band member Danny Amis pulled out a bag of wrestling masks he'd bought in Mexico City. The masks have been the band's trademark ever since.
The Straitjackets were founded as a side-project in the late '80s by Eddie Angel (guitar), Amis (bass) and Jimmy Lester (drums). After a six-year hiatus, it reformed in the mid-90s as the four-piece Los Straitjackets, with bassist Scott Esbeck joining the group and Amis switching to guitar.
