Briefly: Tim McGraw, Clay Aiken, Vibe Awards, George Harrison, The Holmes Brothers
Country star Tim McGraw will top the bill of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which is set for Dec. 11 in Oslo, Norway.
The Cardigans and Roseanne Cash (backed by The Chieftains) are also scheduled to perform.
American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken will receive his diploma from North Carolina's UNC Charlotte at a Dec. 30 ceremony, prompting the university to require graduation guests to have a ticket for just the second time in the school's 57-year history.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Aiken does not wish to perform at the ceremony, and declined an offer to sit on the stage.
Rapper 50 Cent dominated the inaugural Vibe Awards on Thursday night (11/20), taking home three awards: Dopest Album ("Get Rich or Die Tryin'"), Hottest Hook ("In Da Club") and Artist of the Year.
Beyonce and Jay-Z won two awards each. The ceremony, hosted by Queen Latifah, was taped to air on Friday night (11/21) on UPN.
George Harrison 's first guitar has sold at auction at the Hard Rock Cafe in London for nearly $470,000, according to British press reports. In "The Beatles Anthology" book, the late Beatle described the acoustic guitar as "a real cheapo, horrible little guitar, but it was OK at the time."
The Holmes Brothers issue "Simple Truths," their second Alligator Records release, on Jan. 14. Craig Street (Norah Jones) produced the album's 13 tracks, which include the group's covers of songs by Townes Van Zandt ("If I Needed You"), Bob Marley ("Concrete Jungle"), Willie Nelson ("Opportunity To Cry") and Hank Williams ("I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"), among others.
