Jimmy Buffett plans January concerts in California and Hawaii
Breaking his recent habit of opening his touring year with concerts in the Southeast, Jimmy Buffett has lined up a pair of January shows in California and one appearance in Hawaii.
Buffett is set to play on Jan. 20 at San Jose's HP Pavilion and on Jan. 24 at Anaheim's Arrowhead Pond. From there, he hops to Hawaii for a Jan. 28 appearance at Honolulu's Waikiki Shell.
Tickets for the Hawaii show go on sale on Friday (11/13), and tickets for the California performances hit the market on Monday (12/15), according to Buffett's Margaritaville website.
Buffett recently picked up a GRAMMY® nomination in the Best Country Collaboration with Vocals category for "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," his duet with Alan Jackson. The collaboration won the Country Music Association's Vocal Event of the Year Award in November. "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," which appears on Jackson's "Greatest Hits 2" album, is Buffett's first No. 1 country single.
Buffett reportedly plans to continue in the country vein on "Conchy Tonk," a new alt-country album he's recording this month at his Shrimp Boat Sound Studios in Key West, FL.
"I've had several failed attempts at a country career," Buffett said in an interview published last month by the Chicago Sun Times. "I came out of [Nashville]. I've had a wonderful love-hate relationship with Nashville, and now I'm in a love stage."
Buffett released two live CDs from his 2003 tour in September: "Live in Auburn, Wash. (Sept. 16, 2003)" and "Live in Las Vegas" (Sept. 20, 2003)." Recordings of his 2003 shows in Boston and Cincinnati will be in stores on Jan. 13, but are shipping through Buffett's Mailboat Records site next week.
In April, Buffett released "Meet Me In Margaritaville: The Ultimate Collection." The two-disc set includes a mix of well-known Buffett tracks, live recordings, alternate takes and covers, as well as two new songs.
The Buffett DVD "MiniMatinee 1" was released in November. It features six performances from Buffett's 2002 tour, including a duet with Jackson of "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere."
