Guster [ tickets ], which will spend most of March opening for singer-songwriter John Mayer, precedes that jaunt with a series of headlining shows.

The Boston-based alt-rock trio's road trip begins with a Feb. 19 performance in Northampton, MA. Employing its characteristic wry humor, the band said in a message posted at its website that the Northampton show--which is a make-up date for a performance that was canceled due to a winter storm--is the catalyst for the subsequent headlining run.

"Our first-ever cancellation due to snow!," reads the message. "To celebrate, we're launching an entire winter tour after the show."

Dates for the Guster's headlining run conclude with a March 6 show in Charlotte, NC; the band then takes over the opening slot on John Mayer's tour on March 9, and is scheduled to remain on the road with Mayer until the end of March. Details appear in the itinerary below.

Guster is on the road behind its fourth album, "Keep It Together," which hit stores last June and debuted at No. 35 on The Billboard 200 album chart. The group plans to release a new live album and DVD "by April," according to its website.
