Lucinda Williams readies for a new batch of U.S. club shows
Singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams returns to the road for a series of club dates in February as she continues to support her recent album, "World Without Tears."
Her latest itinerary runs for a month, and many shows feature Bottle Rockets in the opening slot. Details are shown in the itinerary below.
"World Without Tears," which was produced by Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, U2), hit stores in April of 2003. In a statement, Williams said Howard convinced her that her new batch of songs needed a raw, stripped-down sound.
"Everything was so spontaneous and emotional," she said. "We recorded the album in this huge 1920s mansion right in the middle of Los Angeles. We recorded the way a live band would record."
Backing Williams in the studio were Doug Pettibone (guitars), Jim Christie (drums, percussion, keyboards), and Taras Prodaniuk (bass).
Known for creating works that span various genres--her music has been tagged as alt-folk, rock and alt-country, among other things--Williams again amassed a number of diverse tracks for "World Without Tears."
"It shows all the different musical influences that have entered into my life," she said, "but none of it was conscious. It just happened."
Williams' 1998 album "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road won a GRAMMY® for Best Contemporary Folk Album. She followed it up with 2001's "Essence."
