Briefly: R.E.M., James Brown, R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, Allman Brothers
R.E.M. has set a March 16 release date for "Perfect Square," a DVD documenting the band's entire summer 2003 performance at Bowling Green, a large outdoor venue in Weisbaden, Germany.
Besides the concert, the DVD also features the 1999 R.E.M. concert-documentary "A Stirling Performance." The documentary was given a limited theatrical release in 2000, but has never before been available on home video, according to Warner Bros.
Rock/soul trailblazer James Brown , 70, was released from a South Carolina jail on Thursday morning (1/29), where he had been held for a day on charges of criminal domestic violence.
According to published reports, investigators said that Brown pushed his wife, 33-year-old Tomi Rae Brown, to the ground during an argument at their home. She later was hospitalized for bruises.
If convicted, Brown faces a maximum penalty of a $500 fine and 30 days in jail, according to the Associated Press.
Embattled R&B star R. Kelly --who is facing child-pornography charges--has been given the go-ahead by a judge to travel to Los Angeles for next month's Grammy ceremony. However, the judge reportedly has ordered Kelly to stay away from Michael Jackson , who has been charged with child molestation.
Kelly is nominated for two Grammys.
The Allman Brothers Band 's March 2003 run at New York's Beacon Theatre is documented on a new 2-disc live set titled "One Way Out," due in stores on March 23. This year's run of shows at the Beacon opens on March 18.
The Allmans are scheduled to appear on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on March 16.
